PARK DR. FRANJO RACKI

Project of landscape architecture

Park dr. Franjo Racki in Fužine was created in 1890 when the Association for the Embellishment of the Town of Fužine was founded. Park had a simple layout in the form of irregular green area in the central area, edged by path that follows the outer contours of the park.

It was restored in 1954 when the sculpture of dr. Franjo Racki was interpolated, and eventually covered with high uncultivated trees and high bushy plants without visible design and functionality. In the absence of a kinder playground in the area, in the park was also installed a multifunctional device for children`s play. Due to overage benches without backs, lack of lighting, too narrow a main entrance and neglected vegetation, the park is transformed by moving the monument, extending the main entrance, opening of a new entrance, interpolation of pavilions, a number of benches and waste containers, installation of lamps and development of a new kinder playground.

The intervention kept a classical park appearance emphasized the importance of the memorial space, created a place for stay and cultural events with a gazebo and plateau with benches and opened a breathtaking view on the surrounding mountains.
