MAIN LANDSCAPE DESIGN PROJECT OF KIDS PLAYGROUND – Environment in part of cp no. 538/3, 463/1, CM Hreljin, City of Bakar
The project task envisages the arrangement of green areas with new playgrounds for formal and informal children’s play, a relaxation area with benches and horticultural arrangement of open areas.
Since there is a children’s playground on the cadastral parcels, it is planned to modernize and equip the environment according to the needs of today’s users, with facilities for children of all ages, as well as for adults.
Within the boundary of the scope, there was high deciduous vegetation in an irregular spatial arrangement, and a lawn on the ground floor.
The plot is very well located within the village and was an interesting space with many opportunities to design a new children’s playground.
From composite boundary analysis the main directions of movement are determined. The entrance to the playground is connected by stairs from the road. The analysis also envisages the position of a new car park with an access road and a landscaped green belt, which is not the subject of this project.
Play equipment is arranged respecting safety zones at intervals suitable for undisturbed play of children. The play areas connect open lawns and footpaths.
The shape of the base are elliptical surfaces connected by a geometric path of irregular shape that connects the entrances with the surface of the playground. On the trail there are living areas with benches with views of all parts of the playground. At the entrance along the north side of the scope of the trail, there are also three recycling bins. In addition to pedestrian communication and living space, the trail also serves as a running and children’s play area. It connects smaller playground zones that are divided into age groups.
Design basis are elliptical surfaces connected by a geometric path of irregular shape that connects the entrances with the surface of the playground. Along the path there are living areas with benches from which you can see all parts of the playground. At the entrance along the north side of the path, there are also three recycling bins. In addition to pedestrian communication and living space, the path also serves as a running and children’s play area. It connects smaller playground zones that are divided into age groups.
The first zone is a smaller semicircle with fitness equipment for children and adults, the second zone is connected to the first and it is intended for children from one year onwards, while the third and fourth zones are intended for older children from 3-6 years onwards. In the zones next to the playground, there are also rubber balls and half spheres for the informal type of game, a social game incorporated into the surface – School / Cip-Cop, as well as benches for sitting and resting.
Along the wall, geometrically irregular strokes of ornamental non-toxic shrub vegetation suitable for planting on children’s playgrounds are formed. Other parts of the scope boundary have been retained in their original form with high vegetation and an open lawn area for running and informal play.
The walking surfaces are divided into a main path located inside the play areas, built of environmentally friendly anti-stress cast rubber (recycled and made from 70% worn sports shoes and recycled rubber), in different colors which further creates dynamics inside the playground with color contrasts and thus marks the zone boundaries and a STABILIZER gravel path that serves as a link between the future car park, the existing park entrance and the future entrance to the fenced part of the kindergarten environment.
The anti-stress surface is durable and safe for children to play, compliant with all international standards related to dangerous falls from heights.
The Stabilizer is placed on a modeled terrain and a prepared load-bearing bed made of crushed stone with a leveling layer of sand and a geotextile base. The final layer of the Stabilizer is in a layer adapted for pedestrian and bicycle surfaces. The substrate is made in a slight slope towards the green grass areas due to the natural drainage of rainwater.
The benches are made of a simple steel construction with exotic jatoba wood with and without backrest.
The selected bin is recyclable with three separate waste sorting compartments. It is placed at the entrance to the cast rubber track and fixed according to standards.
Bicycle racks are located at the entrance to he playground in the area next to the combined playground. They are set according to norms and standards, and according to the project.
Vegetation is selected according to climate and purpose of space. Since it is a children’s playground, special attention was paid when choosing new vegetation. Shrubby plant species are suitable for the children’s play area, non-toxic and without thorns to keep children safe when playing.
The high vegetation was mostly kept in the same spatial layout, with the removal of five trees, and no new planting of high vegetation was envisaged.
