DETAILED DESIGN – ENVIRONMENT IN PART OF CP NO. 870/5, CM MRKOPALJ – NOVA

The project is adapted to the settlement by the choice of traditional materials and ambient vegetation, and its design is in line with the ambience of Mrkopalj and the Gorski Kotar region.

Given the position of the environment located next to catering, commercial and residential buildings, as well as the function of the access road for unloading goods, the open area is divided into two zones – the square zone and the access road zone with parking.

The square is physically separated from the access road by a gabion fence with two entrances. The first entrance is located in the eco-zone for waste disposal, which consists of three waste disposal containers closed in a container protection that has the possibility of placing an advertisement or logo of the municipality. The eco zone is separated by a green belt of bushy vegetation from the residential zone of the square. In the square, in an irregularly geometrically shaped shape, in addition to bushy vegetation bordered by gabion fences and concrete curbs, there are 4 pillars as bicycle parking lots, billboards and notices, seating structures in the form of concrete cubes, one solar-powered lighting pole. and a musical instrument as a fun and attractive element in space. The selected shrub vegetation is adapted to the area and climate in which it is located. The square is conceived as a mini oasis within the settlement for sitting, socializing and relaxing.

The access zone with the parking lot is connected to the square in the form of the same type of paving – concrete pavers adapted for higher loads. Next to the commercial building, there is a possibility of informal parking of delivery vehicles, while parking for cars is located parallel to the terrace of the restaurant. The parking lot is bordered by curbs and marked with pavers. The rest of the open area is a lawn with two small trees – Abies concolor that connects to the surrounding residential buildings.

The secondary road located within the coverage limit and the parking lot are connected to the square area by paving stones in a gray tone that visually connect the entire space. Pavers are made of a sandblasted surface of concrete cubes made of crushed granite and quartz sand.

The square is surrounded by a gabion fence – wire baskets consisting of a net filled with stones. The elements are placed modularly. Gabion fences are very resistant to climatic conditions and damage, and permeable to water and melted snow. They are placed directly on the prepared substrate and do not require a foundation.

On the surface of the square there are seating structures in the type of free-standing seating elements that can also be used for the informal type of children’s play. They are placed in two groups and can be moved as needed in different formations. Due to their high weight, they must be transported by machine.

The project envisages a small parking lot for bicycles, which consists of four pillars – a bicycle stand that can lock up to two bicycles.

On the surface of the square there is a billboard made of galvanized steel sheet for the purpose of placing advertisements and various notices of the Municipality.

In addition to the seating elements, there is also a musical instrument on the square – an organ for playing. They consist of stainless steel acoustic tubes of different tonalities – 7 tones, each tube representing a separate tonality.

The lighting fixture provided on the surface of the square consists of a solar panel with LED lighting that operates on automatic ignition at dusk until the morning hours. The specificity of this solar lighting is that it can charge the battery during cloudy weather, and it also suits this climate and low temperatures during the winter.

The organization and arrangement of selected plant species create intimate spaces within the square, physically separated from the side road and parking lot.
