The house in Opatija was built in 1960. It was designed by at that time a young architect for the residence of two families of different generations who shared a common living and garden space. Since the living area was common, the architect`s idea was to create a modern open bright apartment with intimate compartments, which were symmetrically separated residential area into a two equal parts, connected by a passage with glass walls. In this way each family could function separately, and socialize in the large living room.
In the same way garden space was designed, symmetrically divided into two units with terraces and exit from each housing unit into the garden space decorated with utilitarian plants. As the generations changed over a time, the apartment was divided later into two physically separated units, where one was converted into a tourist apartment. Consequently, and according to the wishes of customers, the garden is transformed into a free-formed small “Botanical Garden” with a large number of plant species and varieties from all over the world, interesting for both family members and travellers.
