COASTAL PARK WITH EDUCATIONAL TRAILS FOR THE PROMOTION AND PRESENTATION OF THE HISTORICAL TRADITION OF FISHING IN BAKAR

PRELIMINARY AND MAIN LANDSCAPE DESIGN PROJECT

The topic of this project is the arrangement of the coastal promenade and park with an emphasis on tuna fishing in the city of Bakar.

There used to be several tuna traps in Bakar, but over the years they have been removed and only memories of them and the way of fishing remain in old photographs.
The aim of this project is to acquaint visitors with the tradition of tuna fishing through interactive and info facilities and elements such as the renovation of a former specific wooden construction for tuna fishing, called a tunera in order to increase the attractiveness of Bakar and its surroundings.

Therefore, a new purpose of the green belt by the sea in the form of an interactive and educational park-promenade in Bakar was performed. The design is based on irregular geometric form.

Green areas are divided into several individual forms bounded by hiking trails that are adapted for people with disabilities and wheelchairs.

The trails connect two zones – the park zone and the coastal promenade zone. The pedestrian surfaces are covered with a layer of decorative concrete with an imprinted pattern of stainless steel plates in the shape of fish – tuna.

The tuna pattern is located at several positions of the trail, in the form of a flock that directs users through space.

Inside the park area there are educational and interactive elements such as info panels showing the history of tuna fishing in Bakar, tuna traps, fish and fishermen, as well as one interactive element in the form of a rotating pillar with cubes, which contains information on the topic.

The billboards are designed so that they are not high and allow wheelchair access. The panels are also equipped with Braille, so they allow reading of content and shapes for both visually impaired and blind people.

Inside the park there are stone structures – seating cubes and an extended stone bench. On the coastal promenade there are also seating elements – stone cubes arranged in irregular formations in three positions.

All seating elements are placed according to open views of the sea and can be used as benches and as informal elements for children’s play.
